Hadrian’s Wall and Birdoswald Roman Fort

Hadrian’s Wall is the main attraction in this beautiful area in the north of Cumbria, which is home to more than half of the wall running through the county providing lots of interesting features and attractions full of information on its history. This world heritage site was built by the Roman Empire back in 122AD to form a border between the north and south of Britain. Many believe it was used as a defence for England against the Scots. The wall covers a length of 73 miles, resulting in this being the largest Ancient Monument in Northern Europe. One of the most popular attractions along this amazing wall is Birdoswald.
