But it’s not just for those looking for a leisurely ride as there are some truly challenging long distance cycle routes too such as the Pennine Cycleway, England’s longest cycle route or Hadrian’s Cycleway which stretches across the length of the World Heritage Site taking in Roman forts and temples along the way.

Mountain bikers are also well catered for with the famous Deadwater Trails at Kielder Water and Forest Park where you can experience some of the best views in Britain whilst you head down the 1,900ft summit of Deadwater Fell. Or test out your skills on the Castlewood Loop which incorporates decking and bridges.

The Coast and Castles cycle route is also a great way to visit some of the many historical sites in the county such as Holy Island and Bamburgh Castle.
