About the local area

Ashburn House is located near the entrance of a quiet cul-de-sac resulting in limited through traffic.  The wide array of amenities on offer within this popular holiday destination are within easy walking distance of Ashburn House, including the Alnwick playhouse (including a cinema), Barter Books (one of the largest secondhand bookshops in Britain 250 yards away), restaurants, independent shops and a good variety of pubs.  Alnwick was voted “Best Shopping Street” in Google Street View Awards 2011. Alnwick Castle, home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts!) is close by and the Alnwick Garden (500 yards away); a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden, including a grand cascade waterfall and poison garden where guests can dine in the restaurant of the largest tree house in Europe is well worth a visit.  Golfers will enjoy the views out to sea at the 18-hole course at Alnwick Castle Golf Club only half a mile from Ashburn House.  The picturesque coastal village of Alnmouth, where there is a variety of good restaurants, pubs, tea-rooms and gift shops for the discerning visitor is only 4 miles. Sailing enthusiasts have available to them yacht and small boat moorings within the sheltered estuary and golfing enthusiasts will delight in the two courses close by; one being a fine 9-hole course adjacent to the beach and the other being a challenging 18-hole course at Foxton enjoying panoramic views.   An expansive sweep of golden, sandy beach is perfect for a romantic barefoot stroll for those who enjoy listening to the lap of the waves and inhaling the invigorating sea air….

Ashburn House makes an excellent base to discover the best of Northumberland.
