About the local area

This delightful annexe is attached to the main farmhouse in the hamlet of East Allerdean where a friendly greeting regularly awaits guests. This location is idyllic - with rolling fields and the Cheviot Hills as a backdrop! Yet glimpse to the east and the Northumbrian coastline is very close by to making this an excellent base to explore both coast and countryside that Northumberland is renowned for. The elegant Georgian town of Berwick, which sits upon the salmon and trout rich river Tweed is a mere 5 miles away and where there is a wide array of restaurants, shops, tea rooms, a cinema/theatre and pubs. Enjoy an evening stroll along the shore line and watch the waves ebb and flow or try the Swan Leisure Centre where there is  indoor swimming available.

Paxton House and Country Park is set in 80 acres of gardens, woodland and park land as  well as a mile stretch of the River Tweed and has a fishing museum and two wildlife viewing hides, one by the river and one in the woodland where you may spot a red squirrel or over sixty species of birds; a popular visitor attraction close by. Or visit the Scottish Border 'Toon' of Coldstream and sample the wonderful woodland walks at the Hirsel estate and prestigious golf course only 12 miles away. Take the train from Berwick and enjoy a trip into Edinburgh renowned for its festivals, arts and music venues; its superb castle and medieval buildings and not forgetting the indulgent shopping experience along the Royal Mile!

This unique location is England's borderland; often described as the 'secret kingdom' and provides an excellent base for exploring Northumberland and the Scottish Borders alike. It is contained to the west by the wild, lonely beauty of the Cheviot Hills and Northumberland National Park; and to the east by its magnificent Heritage coastline, acknowledged as a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty
