Skylark Cottage is located just over 3 miles south of Lowick village providing local amenities. It is just over 8 miles away from the famous Holy Island, cross the dramatic causeway to see Lindisfarne Castle and Priory. The friendly small town of Wooler, (known locally as Glendale the inspiration for 'Postman Pat's Greendale!) sits at the foot of the Cheviot Hills only 6 miles away and offers many amenities. This is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, hang gliding and golf, horse riding and walking - the challenging route of the 'St Cuthbert's Way' runs close by. Chatton Trout Fishery invites anglers to fish without a rod licence in the picturesque 4 acre lake, and where disabled anglers are also catered for, close by. The 112th century stronghold of Chillingham Castle is well worth a visit. It commands the power and presence of the seasoned film set it regularly becomes - Elizabeth staged many historic scenes here and The Making of Harry Potter was based at Chillingham; it opens its grounds, gardens and a tea room during Easter to October.
Bamburgh, renowned for its majestic fortress and stretch of golden, sandy beach is only 12 miles east. The elegant Georgian town of Berwick which straddles the salmon rich River Tweed, and the cobbled , market town od Alnwick, protected by its dramatic castle, both offer a wide array of amenities with a half hour's drive. Alnwick Garden is a popular visitor attraction to see the Grand Cascade Waterfall and dine in the restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! This is England's Borderland and often referred to as 'the secret kingdom' - the Scottish Borders are only 15 miles north ensuring Skylark Cottage is a superb rural retreat from which to explore the Northumbrian countryside and the Heritage coastline with easy access to the Scottish Borders too.
