The recently regenerated sandy beach at Newbiggin by the sea is a mere gentle stroll from Breakwater and boasts the East coasts only off shore sculpture named' The Couple'. There are many facilities available within walking distance too including cafes, pubs, a golf course and a local lifeboat and a sailing club. The ancient market town of Morpeth is only 7 miles inland, where there is an abundance of good restaurants, shops and inns to try. Take the time to visit Carlisle Park, which boasts the award winning William Turner garden and where children will enjoy playing in the park and outdoor paddling pool. Tynemouth and Whitley Bay both have Blue Flag beaches ideal for surfing a little further down the coastline.
Take a trip to the cultural metropolis of Newcastle and sample the extensive shopping facilities at the world renowned Metro Centre, along with the Baltic Centre, the Millennium Bridge and the Sage Gateshead music venue - all a mere half hour drive south. Or travel west to visit Hadrian's Wall Country where ramblers and cyclists enjoy the wide open expanses.
