About the local area

Wicketkeeper Cottage is located on the fringe of the picture postcard village of Warkworth, which lies snuggled in the shadow of its majestic castle and is surrounded by the River Coquet, which gently ebbs and flows close by. There are many facilities available within the village including quaint shops, charming pubs, several galleries and a couple of good restaurants. A short walk from the village leads to an extensive sweep of golden, sandy beach. Amble, known locally as 'the friendliest port' is where fishing and boat trips to Coquet Island can be arranged only 2 miles away, to watch the puffins at play.
The historic market town of Alnwick dominated by its own dramatic fortress offers a wide range of amenities, including a theatre/cinema, many restaurants and shops as well as an indoor swimming pool only 6 miles inland. Wicketkeeper Cottage is superbly placed for those families seeking a contemporary coastal retreat or for those couples looking for something special..... where you can stroll barefoot in the sand, listen to the waves lap against the sea shore and watch the gulls soar high above.....

S Lightowler -

Initially thought from the description that the cottage would be overlooking the cricket pitch - the cottage actually is just off the road around the pitch perimeter. Cottage did however offer superb accommodation and was very comfortable. Owners also very attentive and helpful, we had to have the oven door handle fixed, broken when we arrived, this was repaired very promptly.
