The picturesque village of Rothbury, found nestled at the foot of the Simonside and Lordenshaw hills is known locally as ‘The Gateway to the Northumberland National Park’ and is only 6 miles up the Coquet valley. Interesting visitor attractions close by are the English Heritage site at Brinkburn Priory and the National Trust 1,000 acres estate property at Cragside, once home to Lord Armstrong. The bustling market town of Alnwick, dominated by its majestic castle is home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy!) and offers many facilities 13 miles north, including a cinema / playhouse, indoor swimming pool with leisure facilities and a wide array of amenities. The Alnwick Garden is a popular tourist attraction; including a Grand Cascade waterfall, a Poison garden and a restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe.
