Perched on the hillside above the picturesque market town of Rothbury, ‘The Croft' is a substantial double fronted stone-built, semi-detached cottage, which has recently undergone extensive renovation to provide superior quality self-catering accommodation.  Each room is well proportioned and tastefully furnished with the comfort of visitors in mind. The sunny living room with an open fire is equipped with flat screen TV, Free Sat and DVD and enjoys wonderful views over the Coquet valley and the Simonside hills beyond. The panoramic vistas can also be admired from the spacious dining room where there is a grand piano for anyone who wants to play.
The newly fitted modern kitchen is well equipped with integral appliances and both bedrooms have excellent quality beds to ensure a good rest for all.  With a contemporary bathroom and a separate shower room this property is suitable for the gathering of family and friends or for those couples looking for something rather special at all times of the year.
The house is in a very peaceful and quiet setting surrounded by gardens and with a sun drenched terrace at the front equipped with comfortable garden furniture.

All oil, electricity, bed linen and towels included. First supply of fuel for fire provided. Travel cot and high chair available.

About the local area

Rothbury offers an abundance of facilities including several shops, pubs and quaint tea rooms.  Fishing for salmon and trout on the River Coquet is a popular pastime (permits available locally) and golf can be arranged on the idyllic riverside course.  The National Trust property of Cragside was the first home to be lit by hydro-electricity and the elegant house and its grounds are a popular visitor attraction close by.  Rothbury is the ideal base from which to explore the Northumberland National Park and is appealing to ramblers and cyclists with its many excellent walks on the doorstep, from gentle riverside strolls to climbing the imposing Simonside Hills, which form a great sandstone ridge and Special Area of Conservation with 360 degree views from coast to hills.  The Lordenshaws have impressive remains of an Iron Age Hillfort, Bronze Age burials and rock carvings set in open heather moorland.  The bustling market town of Alnwick 15 miles to the east is protected by its dramatic castle, the ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland (famous as the film location for Harry Potter).  Enjoy a trip to the superb Alnwick Garden, with its Grand Cascade Waterfall and the restaurant in the largest tree house in Europe.
The Heritage coastline this area is renowned for, and designated as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is less than 20 miles away ensuring The Croft provides an excellent central base for exploring both the wild and lonely beauty of the unspoilt heather capped hills to the west along with the golden, sandy beaches to the east.

It is a short walk uphill from the main street in Rothbury and is very well situated with beautiful views.

Fontburn Fishery

Fontburn is a small mouth of water located close to Tyneside. Set within 87 acres the lake consists of a north and south shore which are great for fly fishing. There is also a Visitor Centre and shop by the Dam with a picnic area close by. Day permits can be purchased for £23 from the shop. Tel: 01669 621368

Thrunton Woods

Thrunton Woods is a large area of woodland a few miles north of Longframlington. The walking is superb culminating in a ten mile walk which traverses truly stunning scenery. It has the feel of wilderness walking and is an ideal holiday activity.

Rock climbing in the Simonside Hills

The Simonside Hills are located within easy reach of the town of Rothbury. The hills are a mixture of rough moorland and forest which are managed by the Forestry Commission.
