Wooler is a small, stone-built town on the edge of the Northumberland National Park and at the foot of the Cheviot Hills. It is one of the main towns along the popular long-distance footpath of St Cuthbert's Way, which runs between Melrose in the Scottish borders and Holy Island.

Situated in the northern part of the county close to the Scottish border, Wooler is an excellent base for a holiday or for exploring the surrounding countryside. With quiet backroads and bridleways in the area is ideal for many activities, including cycling, horse riding, fishing and rock climbing. To the east is the magnificent coastline of Northumberland, which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The coast offers spectacular scenery from Bamburgh Castle and the Holy Island of Lindisfarne to Seahouses and the birdwatcher’s paradise The Farne Islands.

The town itself has interesting and specialist shops and cafes. There is an abundance of local food, grocery stores and a working pottery studio, making Wooler the leading shopping centre in the area. The rich flora and fauna are held in high regards.

To the North East you'll find the Ford and Etal estates, an area that offers visitors everything from its own steam railway line to Northumberland's only thatched pub. The estate is superb for outdoor enthusiasts and footpaths and bridleways criss-cross the area. Cycle hire is available locally and there are numerous pubs, tearooms and restaurants offering refreshment when you've done your exploring.

Situated to the west of Wooler are the Cheviot Hills marking the border with Scotland. They are the most northerly hills in England and cover some 400 square miles. A large proportion of these predominantly green, rounded hills lie at the heart of the Northumberland National Park. These hills offer a wild and romantic landscape to explore.
