At the edge of the Northumberland National Park and surrounded by beautiful open countryside, this delightful single storey, detached cottage has undergone extensive renovation to provide excellent holiday accommodation. The heart of the cottage is the spacious farmhouse kitchen, which is very well equipped to accommodate the gathering of families and friends and boasts a wood-burning stove making this a cosy choice, whatever the season!
Shepherds Cottage sits within the 800 acres of Roseden Farm, a traditional mixed farm, which has been farmed by the Walton family since 1937. The farm shop and tea room and butcher's shop close by have deservedly earned an excellent reputation for superb home produced goods (including many favourite home baked treasures such as Millionaire's shortbread and sticky gingerbread!), has received numerous prestigious awards, and is extensively renowned for its excellent cuisine and friendly service. Roseden Farm is only 5 miles south of the welcoming small stone built town of Wooler, which is found nestled at the foot of the wild, heather topped expanses of the Cheviot Hills. This stunning area is known locally as Glendale (the inspiration for 'Postman Pat's Greendale!) and its many picturesque bridleways and footpaths are popular with those who enjoy cycling, horse riding and walking - the challenging route of the 'St Cuthberts Way' runs near by.
The historic market town of Alnwick is only 12 miles away and offers many facilities including a theatre/cinema, indoor swimming, golf and pubs with restaurants. The Alnwick Garden with its Grand Cascade waterfall, poison garden and the largest tree house in Europe is an interesting visitor attraction. The golden, sandy beaches and dramatic castles for which the Northumberland Heritage coastline is renowned for are only 15 miles east making Shepherds Cottage an excellent base for exploring both the moors and hills coupled with easy access to the 20 mile stretch of one of the finest seashores in England, deservedly awarded as an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
