Description
At the entrance to the bridge, where the River East Allen ebbs and flows, perched at the edge of the welcoming town of Allendale this delightful Grade 2 listed stone built cottage has recently undergone total renovation to provide stunning self catering accommodation. Bridge End Cottage is a truly 'chocolate box' cottage boasting oodles of style. Authentic features such as exposed beams, an inglenook fireplace housing a cosy wood burning stove and granite work surfaces along with a Belfast sink in the kitchen all add to its charm. A welcoming ambience awaits guests to this lovely cottage; it's nestled into the hillside at the rear and couples with new 'period' sash windows ensure the cottage is very well insulated throughout. Visitors are regularly met with a friendly greeting in Allendale where there are ample facilities available and where many travel from far and wide to celebrate New Year by is unique Pagan ceremony known as the Tar Barrel Festival. Pony trekking can be arranged at Sinderhope close by and Allenheads, perched at the head of the Allen Valley has its own heritage centre, 8 miles away. Alston is 13 miles; positioned high up in the Pennines, which at 1300 feet above sea level claims to be the highest settlement in England and is the starting point for the South Tyne Railway - enjoy a leisurely ride and absorb the panoramic vistas of this wild and lonely beautiful landscape, designated as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. For those looking for an active cycling holiday, this is the perfect location to access Kielder, Chopwell and an excellent base for the 'Coast to Coast' trip. The historic market town of Hexham, dominated by its magnificent abbey is only 14 miles and offers a wide array of amenities - why not try your luck at Hexham racecourse! Bridge End Cottage is well placed to explore the very best of Hadrian's Wall Country and gives easy access to the Heritage coastline to the east or the opportunity to explore the north Pennines and the Lake District National Park too.
