Only 2 miles north is the fishing port of Seahouses, where boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands - famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony - depart regularly, and where there are several quaint tea rooms, charming shops, a leisure centre, fishing and a golf course available. A further 3 miles up the coast line is the picturesque village of Bamburgh, which lies snuggled in the shadow of its majestic castle.
