The traditional fishing village of Amble, known locally as 'the friendliest port' is 18 miles north and where boat trips to Coquet Island, populated by basking seals and breeding gulls and puffins, depart regularly. The historic market town of Morpeth, with its winding River Wansbeck, offers an extensive range of facilities only 8 miles south.
