Description
Set amongst the Northumberland National Park and commanding magnificent uninterrupted views across open countryside, Ash Granary is an excellent representation of the quintessential country retreat.  This detached, stone-built former granary has been recently sympathetically restored and oozes charm and character.  The accommodation is spacious and well presented throughout and the lounge boasts the friendly comfort of a multi-fuel stove ensuring a cosy welcome awaits guests whatever the season. Ash Granary is situated 3 miles west of the picturesque village of Wark where there are many local facilities available. Explore the Wark’s Burn at your own pace and enjoy the freedom to wander freely and admire the stunning vistas. Follow the river bank and discover its most beautiful features; rocky gorges with waterfalls, cliffs dripping with moss, ferns, steep wooden banks and open riverside pastures with a background of grazed open woodland. As well as the wildlife interest along the burn, there are also historic interests such as the natural sulphur spring marked as the Holly Well as well as the Long Drop Netty at Low Roses Bower.  This stunning area is managed under a Countryside Stewardship Scheme, helping to enhance and conserve important landscapes, their wildlife habitats and historic features.  The pretty village of Bellingham is only 6 miles north and where facilities include a tourist office and heritage centre with a highly regarded 18-hole, par 70 golf course on its outskirts.  Pony trekking, windsurfing, sailing and ferry trips are only a small sample of the many outdoor activities that can be arranged at Kielder Water – Northern Europe’s largest man-made lake – which is cradled by Kielder Forest Park, nearby and the historic market town of Hexham, dominated by its majestic abbey is only 15 miles away. The World Heritage site of Hadrian’s Wall Country, England’s largest Heritage Site within this most northerly of National Parks is within easy driving distance and Vindolanda, Thirlwell Castle, a quarry wildlife park, The Roman Army Museum and Walltown Craggs – the highest remaining section of Hadrian’s Wall - are all interesting visitor attractions close by.   Ramblers and cyclists will enjoy the miles of bridleways and footpaths whilst absorbing the panoramic vistas of the wild and un-spoilt countryside across the Northumberland National Park ensuring Ash Granary is an excellent base to explore the many delights across Northumberland giving easy access to the coastline and the Scottish Borders too.
