Curlew is one of three cottages snuggled behind a small and friendly hotel and offers a cosy retreat very close to Hadrian’s Wall. Every effort has been made to ensure these cottages are kind to the environment and the accommodation benefits from the convenience of being all on ground floor level. Guests are welcome to use the dining and bar facilities within the adjacent ten bedroom hotel where a cheerful greeting awaits. Theses cottages sit above the charming village of Haydon Bridge where local facilities are only two miles away. The centre of Hadrian’s Wall itself is very close by and the Northumberland National Park is within two miles making this an idyllic base to explore the raw and natural beauty of rural Northumberland. This is the heart of Hadrian’s Wall Country; England’s largest Heritage Site within the most northerly of National Parks. Vindolanda, Thirlwell Castle, a quarry wildlife park, The Roman Army Museum and Walltown Craggs – the highest remaining section of Hadrian’s Wall - are all interesting visitor attractions close by. Ramblers and cyclists will admire the miles of bridleways and footpaths whilst absorbing the panoramic vistas of the wild and un-spoilt Northumbrian countryside and there is a superb choice of prestigious golf courses and salmon fishing opportunities in the area too. The village of Haltwhistle is geographically acknowledged as ‘The Centre of Britain’ and offers many amenities only 10 miles to the west and the historic market town of Hexham, dominated by its majestic abbey is a mere 9 miles east. Take the train from nearby Haydon Bridge to give easy and regular access to the vibrant city of Newcastle 30 miles east and Carlisle 25 miles west. Curlew is an excellent choice for those seeking a cosy retreat in a lovely rural setting offering a stunning base to explore Hadrian’s Wall Country with easy access to the Lake District too. Curlew can be booked independently or together with Plover and / or Goldfinch to accommodate the gathering of family and friends.
