Description

Originally built in 1747 and beautifully converted with oodles of charm, The Barn has retained many of its features such as exposed beams and stonework with oak paneled walls, making this cottage the epitome of a romantic hideaway for couples.  The spacious bedroom boasts a fabulous antique four-poster bed and there is also a seating area with TV to snuggle in front of.  A French door from the lounge leads to an immaculate and beautifully maintained landscaped garden where a patio area is idyllic to enjoy a spot of alfresco dining and absorb the panoramic vistas to watch the sun set…

The Barn sits in a small cluster of barn conversions collectively known as Shaftoe Grange, which is reached at the end of a mile up-hill single track and offers splendid accommodation in an idyllic and peaceful setting.  Situated 3 miles north of the picturesque village of Belsay it is easily accessible from Newcastle, being a mere 15 miles.  To the east is the friendly town of Morpeth only 14 miles and the picture postcard village of Rothbury which nestles at the foot of the Simonside hills and straddled by the River Coquet is 15 miles north.
The historic market town of Hexham dominated by its magnificent abbey is often referred to as ‘one of the jewels in Northumberland’s crown’ and offers a wide range of restaurants, pubs and a cinema / theatre a short drive west.   Vindolanda, the Roman Site at Corstopitum and Housesteads Roman Fort Museum are all interesting historic attractions across ‘Hadrian’s Wall Country’ within easy driving distance.   Golfers will delight in the many prestigious courses close by including those at Matfen and the De Vere Slaley and with so many bridle ways, way-marked footpaths and cycle routes including those at Harwood and Kielder forests, ramblers and cyclists have ample choice.  Visitors will enjoy the grandeur of Wallington Hall, a National Trust property with a farm shop and walled garden only 7 miles away and Belsay Hall is also well worth a visit just over 3 miles.  Take a short drive south to reach the vibrant city of Newcastle, well known for its global cultural pursuits and experience the extensive shopping facilities at the world renowned Gateshead Metro Centre.  The Millennium Bridge, the Baltic Centre and the Sage Gateshead music venue are all interesting visitor attractions too.

The Barn offers a romantic hideaway for couples boasting oodles of charm in a tranquil setting surrounded by superb countryside views to give a sense of being in the middle of nowhere, but is in fact, the centre of everywhere!
