This route begins in Newcastle and winds its way through Berwick and Melrose up to Edinburgh in Scotland. In total it is 200 miles with 39 miles of this being traffic free. The route passes a multitude of historic sites including the world famous Lindisfarne and Bamburgh Castle, the ancient capital of Northumbria, as well as nature reserves until it crosses the border at Berwick-upon-Tweed and moves into the Tweed Valley. This is quite a challenging route so its best to do a bit of training before undertaking it. Those who prefer a gentler ride can enjoy aspects of the route by joining the trail at any of the towns it passes such as Amble, Warkworth, Alnmouth, Craster, Seahouses and Goswick.
