Description

Wits End is a charming semi-detached cottage situated in the picturesque coastal village of Beadnell. The living/dining room oozes charm and the cottage is tastefully furnished throughout. There is the added comfort of a wood burner ensuring Wits End is a cosy choice regardless of the season. The kitchen leads to a fully enclosed patio area where a wooden structure adds privacy and shelter, to enable guests to relax outdoors in comfort and dine al fresco. All three beautifully presented bedrooms are on the first floor along with a family bathroom. Wits End nestles in the grounds of Beadnell Hall situated within the very heart of the traditional seaside village of Beadnell.
Local facilities include family friendly pubs serving good food, and a local village shop all within easy walking distance. Access to a sandy bay speckled with rocky outcrops is close by, and leads to a long sandy beach that stretches to Seahouses, 2 miles north. The wide expanse of golden sandy beach at Beadnell Bay is about ½ mile away; a popular destination for watersports enthusiasts, including sailing, sea kayaking, wind surfing and scuba diving. Beadnell Bay can truly be described as the jewel in Northumberland’s seaside crown. Perfect for a romantic barefoot stroll in the sand, to listen to the waves lap against the shoreline and breathe the invigorating sea air. The traditional fishing port of Seahouses, 2 miles up the coastline, is where the boat trips to the nearby Farne Islands, famous for its bird sanctuaries and seal colony, depart regularly from its harbour. Here there are several charming tea rooms, quaint pubs and shops, and horse riding, fishing and golf on the links are close by.
A further 3 miles up the coastline is the picturesque village of Bamburgh, which lies snuggled in the shadow of its majestic fortress, which has been the setting for several TV and film locations. Holy Island, the birthplace of Christianity in the UK, and site of Lindisfarne Castle, can be seen from the unspoilt golden, sandy beach. Just a few miles inland is the bustling market town of Alnwick, with its own dramatic castle (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy!). Visitors will enjoy a trip to Alnwick Gardens, a spectacular interpretation of a formal garden including the Grand Cascade waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe! Wits End is an excellent choice for those seeking beautifully presented accommodation, giving easy access to explore the 20 miles Heritage Coastline recognised as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Beach 300 yards. Shop 200 yards, pub and restaurant 100 yards.

About the local area

One of the most popular holiday areas on the north east coast, Beadnell consists of three villages in one, Beadnell Harbour, the old Beadnell Village and Beadnell Haven.

The main attractions at Beadnell include its magnificent golden sandy beach, limekilns, small harbour, beautiful coastline, and views to the distant Cheviot Hills. During holiday times the beach is very popular with watersports enthusiasts that like to go diving, sailing, windsurfing, sea canoeing and waterskiing.

Countless coastal walks provide breathtaking views along this Heritage Coastline, especially between Holy Island and Alnmouth, with Beadnell being mid-way. Ramblers will delight in the miles of unspoilt footpaths, splendid beach and country walks. The varied terrain is easily accessible by foreshore and footpaths.

Just along the coast from Beadnell is the town of Seahouses where you can catch the boat over to the Farne Islands.

Once used as a pilgrimage for medieval monks, the Farne Islands are now a cherished destination for nature lovers from across the globe. The cliffs, stacks and grassy tops of this rocky group of islands come alive with sea birds between April and early August. Around 20 different species, as many as 100,000 birds in total, make their home here during the breeding season every year. Some of the birds you are most likely to see on the Islands include Puffins, Razorbill, Guillemots, Eider Duck, and Oystercatchers. The Farne Islands are also the habitat for some interesting and unusual plants. Several of the islands are covered with a layer of light peat, where most of the islands' vegetation is found. Common species to look out for include Borage, Survey Grass, Silverweed and Sorrel.

As well as offering the chance to access to Farne Islands Seahouses also has an abundance of things to do and see including bird watching, horse riding, golfing, cycling and watersports as well as gardens, castles and beaches to visit.
