Nestled within a small terrace of four, this Victorian cottage was once occupied by farm workers and enjoys a rural, tranquil aspect. Poppy Cottage has undergone a makeover to offer cosy self catering holiday accommodation whilst many original features retain its character and charm. The lounge focuses upon an open fire; idyllic to gaze into and watch the flames dance after a day exploring the stunning countryside that surrounds Poppy Cottage. A small galley style kitchen, bathroom and one of the three double bedrooms are also on the ground floor as well as a spacious dinning room, which has views to the front of the cottage and where a staircase leads to a loft conversion where there are two further double bedrooms.
Poppy Cottage enjoys a rural setting yet conveniently situated just over a mile west of Cornhill-on-Tweed, where there is a well stocked village shop/cafe and pub available. A further mile up the A697 brings you to Coldstream, which edges the salmon rich River Tweed to form a natural boundary between England and Scotland. It has an ancient history, stretching back to the bronze age, and is without doubt the most dramatic and historic entrance into Scotland. Coldstream is recognised as "The first true Border Toon" and is the birthplace of The Coldstream Guards, which are now the oldest British regiment. The nearby Hirsel Estate offers wonderful woodland walks, and a superb 18 hole golf course recently voted ’the friendliest course in the Borders’.

About the local area

The small and welcoming town of Wooler is found nestled at the foot of the wild, heather capped expanses of the Cheviot Hills only 12 miles south. Wooler sits at the gateway to the Northumberland National Park and offers several good restaurants, shops and pubs. This is a popular destination for those who enjoy cycling, gliding, golf, horse riding and walking - the challenging route of the ’St Cuthbert’s Way’ runs close by. Lindisfarne (Holy Island) and Bamburgh are a half hour drive east. Alnwick Castle, famous for Harry Potter films and its spectacular gardens and tree house cafe, Ford and Etal Estate with castle, miniature steam railway and mill and Chillingham Castle with its world famous wild cattle are all within easy reach. The surrounding area, with its spectacular scenery, is known locally as Glendale - the inspiration for ’Postman Pat’s Greendale’. The historic towns of Kelso and Berwick upon Tweed offer a wide array of amenities and the Heritage coastline with its sweep of golden, sandy beaches is also within an easy driving distance. Poppy Cottage is snuggled amongst the beautiful uninterrupted landscape of North Northumberland and very close to England’s borderland. This unique location, often referred to as ’the secret kingdom’ makes an excellent base to explore North Northumberland and the Scottish Borders alike.
