Ash Cottage is a quaint white washed 18th century traditional fisherman’s cottage and sits in a small terrace adjacent to The Cottage Inn, renowned for its good food and welcoming atmosphere.  Dunstan is a friendly hamlet only a mile from the picturesque fishing port of Craster, famous world wide for its oak smoked kippers and the film location for Distant Shores.   There are excellent regular bus connections with Alnwick and the railway station at Alnmouth is easily accessible too - and with a local pub, restaurant and shop within walking distance then travelling by car isn’t essential.

About the local area

It’s positioned mid way along this stunning 20 mile stretch of Heritage coastline and where the atmospheric ruins of Dunstanburgh Castle are within walking distance. Just 6 miles inland is the attractive market town of Alnwick, where there are ample facilities available including a wide array of shops, pubs, restaurants, a theatre/cinema and a leisure centre offering indoor swimming. It boasts its own dramatic castle, often referred to as ’The Windsor of the North’ and ancestral home to the Duke of Northumberland (and film location for Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy!). Alnwick Garden is an interesting visitor attraction with its spectacular Grand Cascade waterfall, a poison Garden and a restaurant incorporated within the largest tree house in Europe. Fishing, horse riding, bird watching, golf and cycling are only a sample of activities available in the area or why not enjoy a spectacular cliff top stroll and watch the waves crash against the shoreline below. Ash Cottage provides a cosy retreat for those seeking an excellent base to explore this stunning region acknowledged as An Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
