The historic market town of Alnwick, with its quaint cobbled streets, offers an abundance of facilities including several restaurants, charming tea rooms, shops, a playhouse / cinema and modern leisure complex with indoor swimming only 7 miles inland. Alnwick Castle has been the setting for many films and television productions including Harry Potter’s Hogwarts Academy and Alnwick Garden, with its Grand Cascade Waterfall and restaurant within the largest tree house in Europe are popular visitor attractions. The traditional fishing village of Craster, famous world-wide for its oak smoked kippers is only 3 miles south. Take a boat trip to the Farne Islands from Seahouses, 8 miles north and see the bird sanctuaries and seal colonies close at hand. A further 2 miles up the coastline is the picturesque village of Bamburgh, dominated by its own majestic fortress and renowned for its wide, and often empty, expanse of sandy beaches and where Holy Island is visible from the shoreline.
