This three storey Grade II listed 19th century terraced cottage is set in the very centre of Bellingham. A quirky property retaining many original features including the old range in the kitchen, a reminder of bygone days. Bellingham is popular with walkers and cyclists and is a famed stop off town for those walking on the Pennine Way. The town sits on the banks of the Tyne and is known as the gateway to Kielder Water and Forest Park. The cottage is next to the quiet local pub (no music), where you are welcome to use the Wi-Fi. The local golf course is within walking distance and fishing is popular in the area. Walkers will enjoy visiting Hareshaw Linn Waterfall nearby, a bird of prey centre and picnic areas. Of course the vast Northumberland National Park is a highly acclaimed international gold tier dark sky park famed for star gazing and photography, and a visit to the observatory is a must, (booking is essential). It’s a great base for visiting the Kielder Winter Wonderland or Marathon, and the area is ideally located to reach all the county with a glorious beach at Druridge Bay, 36 miles, and the Roman town of Corbridge is only 18 miles with Hadrian’s Wall close by. The border town of Jedburgh in Scotland is only 32 miles and is the starting point for exploring this very historic area, famed for the battles between Scotland and England. The abbey at Hexham is only 16 miles, and here you will find plenty of shops and places to eat. Johnny’s Cottage is ideal for a family or group of friends on a budget and a perfect base for exploring Northumberland. Shop 250 yards, pub 10 yards, restaurant 200 yards.

About the local area

Northumberland's western edges contain some of its most spectacular destinations, and the Kielder and Redesdale region is no exception. While the countryside is remote, and all the more beautiful for that, there is a wealth of activities on offer for everyone.

Kielder Water & Forest Park is the site of Northern Europe's largest man-made lake. There are also acres of forest to explore. Purpose-built walking trails create perfect forest walks to see a wide range of rare wildlife including the native red squirrels, deer, otters and badgers.

Dedicated mountain bike tracks including a bike skills area scatter the area. Water sports enthusiasts can take to Kielder Water from Easter to October and the lake offers a great challenge to keen trout anglers between March and October.

However if a relaxing stroll is more your thing, you can strike out on your own and explore Wild Redesdale, a great place just to enjoy nature in its most natural form, following in the footsteps of the Romans while hearing the call of Moorland birds.

Kielder is also an ideally placed for exploring the rest of Northumberland, Cumbria, Hadrian's Wall Country and the Scottish Borders.
