Description

Located in the heart of Northumberland, Willow Cottage is a Grade II listed, detached cottage retaining many features and oozing character and charm. The pretty setting of the cottage, with the little stone bridge and small stream to the front, really does present a true ’chocolate box’ image of a pretty country cottage. The inglenook fireplace is a lovely feature and the wood burner is ideal for cool nights in. With three bedrooms, Willow Cottage is ideal for couples and small families with plenty of space throughout and a lovely front garden area, as well as seating on the rear patio.

The cottage is set close to the Northumberland National Park, highly acclaimed for its dark skies. The small village of Wark has village pubs, a shop and post office and is only a 2-minute walk from the cottage door. Ideally located for walkers and cyclists, being only 6 miles from the Chesters Roman Fort and Hadrian’s Wall, a huge visitor attraction stretching from Wallsend, near Newcastle, over to Carlisle. The small town of Bellingham is only 5 miles with an array of local amenities, whilst Hexham with its abbey, shops and pubs is just 12 miles away. You can visit the Northumbrian Heritage Coast which is easy to access and makes a lovely day out, with miles of golden sands stretching along to Berwick-upon-Tweed. Alnwick Castle is only 40 miles, and is famed for its scenes in Harry Potter. The visitor centres at Kielder Water are only 19 miles where there are miles of mountain bike trails and water sports for all the family to enjoy. Shop 500 yards, pub and restaurant 400 yards.

About the local area

Northumberland's western edges contain some of its most spectacular destinations, and the Kielder and Redesdale region is no exception. While the countryside is remote, and all the more beautiful for that, there is a wealth of activities on offer for everyone.

Kielder Water & Forest Park is the site of Northern Europe's largest man-made lake. There are also acres of forest to explore. Purpose-built walking trails create perfect forest walks to see a wide range of rare wildlife including the native red squirrels, deer, otters and badgers.

Dedicated mountain bike tracks including a bike skills area scatter the area. Water sports enthusiasts can take to Kielder Water from Easter to October and the lake offers a great challenge to keen trout anglers between March and October.

However if a relaxing stroll is more your thing, you can strike out on your own and explore Wild Redesdale, a great place just to enjoy nature in its most natural form, following in the footsteps of the Romans while hearing the call of Moorland birds.

Kielder is also an ideally placed for exploring the rest of Northumberland, Cumbria, Hadrian's Wall Country and the Scottish Borders.
